Home Connect: The smart kitchen
Operate electrical appliances conveniently while on the go - the topic of home automation is currently on everyone's lips. We explain the smart "Home Connect" function for kitchen appliances in the Mykitchens magazine.
reading time: approx. 3 minutes
It is the ultimate in kitchen electronics: the Home Connect function. Use it to easily control your electrical appliances while you are on the move. Preheat your oven for dinner while you are on the move. Or switch on your dryer while you are at work so that your laundry is already dry when you get home. In short: simplify your everyday life by letting the appliances do their own thing. More and more manufacturers are bringing smart appliances onto the market. (Nowadays not only WiFi-enabled devices, but also devices with artificial intelligence.) But how does the smart Home Connect function work?
This is how Home Connect works
To make your home smart, you only need three things:
- A device with Home Connect functionality
- A working WiFi connection
- A smartphone or tablet with the Home Connect app
The smart kitchen appliance connects to your smartphone or tablet via WiFi, allowing flexible control. In principle, you never have to press any buttons on your electrical appliance again. However, you must first install the Home Connect app, a special app from the "Home Connect" initiative that can be used to control the smart devices. Some manufacturers already offer a connection to other household apps. This means that the smart-enabled devices can also be operated with Alexa and other smart voice controls.
How safe are smart kitchen appliances?
Many people are initially skeptical about switching to fully automated devices. Smart control means that you are giving up control to technology that you may not have control over. If the WiFi fails, you can no longer control the devices - that is probably one of the biggest concerns when it comes to home automation. But we can reassure you: every smart device has a hidden emergency control. You can also use this to operate it manually. So you are safely protected in the event of a power failure or WiFi failure.
The smart kitchen and its limitless possibilities
With Smart Home, you have many options that simple household appliances cannot fulfill. Depending on the device, practical functions make operation easier. Starting with simple gimmicks, such as lighting effects. Immerse your home in atmospheric light. Different colors and brightness levels provide the ideal lighting - depending on your current needs. Dim the light to a cozy red tone in the evening or set the hob in the perfect scene with appropriate lights on the extractor hood.
You can also get support when preparing your meals. For example, some smart ovens have an integrated baking and roasting sensor that measures the temperature inside. Automation programs determine the perfect cooking setting and time for the dish. And dishwashers and washing machines dose their cleaning agents independently - including a display showing when you need to replenish the supply.

Smart extractor hood
The smart extractor hood connects to the hob and regulates the extraction of cooking smells fully automatically. In addition, many devices allow you to individually adjust the light.

Smart oven
A smart oven bakes automatically. It knows the best recipes, the best cooking settings and knows exactly when the right time has come to switch off. Some ovens also have an integrated camera, can be operated using a smartphone or react as soon as you walk past them.

Smart hob
Have you ever gone back into the house just to make sure your hob is turned off? Thanks to the Home Connect app, this is a thing of the past. You can keep an eye on the WiFi-enabled hobs from anywhere. With just a few clicks, you can also operate a smart hob remotely.

Smart washing machine & dryer
Especially when you're out and about a lot, there's rarely time to do laundry. It's often too late or you don't want to stay up any longer waiting for the laundry. With the Home Connect app, you can avoid long waiting times and start the smart washing machine while you're out and about. But you still have to do the loading and unloading yourself.

Smart refrigerator
You're probably familiar with this situation: You're standing in the supermarket and don't know whether you still have eggs for the cake at home. With the help of Home Connect, all you need to do is pull out your smartphone. Thanks to the integrated camera in the refrigerator, the app shows you what food you still have in stock. The temperature can also be controlled remotely. Finally, you can even open the refrigerator using your voice.

Smart dishwasher
A dishwasher is a real relief for every household. However, if you run out of dishwasher tablets on a Saturday night, for example after a birthday party, you are at a loss. Thanks to the latest technology, this situation is a thing of the past. The intelligent dishwasher counts your wash cycles and automatically notifies you as soon as the dishwasher tablets are running low.

The Bosch app also offers a wide range of inspiration for recipes and ideas for the next cooking evening with friends and family.
