We believe that a range hood should be quiet, practical, and unobtrusive in the kitchen. Features that the new Miele KMDA Silence definitely has. The induction cooktop with integrated fume extraction is very quiet, highly efficient, and also stylish to look at. Perfect as an extractor for an open kitchen, but also for other kitchen solutions with a cooktop extractor. In the Mykitchens Magazine, we reveal everything you need to know about this quiet 2-in-1 cooktop.

The Miele Two-in-One Cooktop with Integrated Fume Extraction

The Miele TwoInOne is a combination of an induction cooktop and a fume extractor. The extractor is integrated in the center of the cooktop and sucks up cooking fumes (steam and odors) directly at the source. The Miele TwoInOne comes in various versions. The newest addition to the KMDA cooktop family is the Miele KMDA Silence, featuring an especially quiet motor and many additional benefits.

The Miele KMDA Silence

With the KMDA Silence, Miele introduces new cooktops with integrated fume extraction. Their advantage: They are especially quiet and (minimally) more efficient than their predecessors.

  • New Silence motor instead of the simple Eco motor
  • Cover grid with slightly beveled frame in black color
  • Four individual cooking zones or a Flex-induction cooktop instead of Powerflex cooking zones
  • The activated carbon filter is now located directly next to the grease filter in the ventilation grid
  • Three operating modes: exhaust air, guided recirculation, and unguided recirculation (Plug&Play)
  • Instead of shortened drawers, the drawer depth is fully usable from drawer 2 onwards

What's New in the Design?

Color, Frame, Grid.

The design of the new Miele KMDA has only changed in small details. It remains an elegant cooktop with an integrated downdraft extractor. A distinctive intake slot is located centrally between the two cooking zones. Its cover grid is embedded into the glass ceramic (flush-mounted) and now has a slightly beveled frame. Depending on the model, the grid is either entirely black (KMDA 7272) or features stainless steel strips (KMDA 7473).

The cooktop is available with a flush-mounted, frameless installation (FL) and with a stainless steel frame (FR).

What’s new in operation?

Display and controls.

The KMDA induction cooktop is operated via Miele ComfortSelect Plus, a sensor control that is touch-operated. The control bar is located directly under the exhaust and offers a display for each cooking zone plus the fan. Depending on the model, the number series is either printed or backlit. The fan automatically adjusts to the cooking process with Con@ctivity and regulates the fan speeds independently. Of course, this automatic ventilation regulation can be turned off, and the cooktop can then be manually controlled.

What’s new in cooktop extraction performance?

Filters and noise level

For particularly efficient and quiet operation, the Miele extraction system features the Silence motor, which has a low installation height. In exhaust mode, the new KMDA Silence can move up to 610 cubic meters of air per hour. At the same time, the perceived noise level is about 30 percent lower than the previous KMDAs. As a result, the KMDA 7272 Silence and KMDA 7473 Silence are particularly quiet cooktop extractors.

In operation, you can choose between exhaust (fumes are filtered through the grease filter in the ventilation grille and then directed outside through flat ducts and a wall box) and recirculation (fumes are filtered through the grease filter and activated carbon filter, and the air is then returned to the room). In the case of recirculation, there is now a distinction between guided recirculation with a recirculation box and unguided recirculation (the air is cleaned through the filters and then returned to the room via the base of the cabinet).

Also new is the Sensitive AirClean filter, which not only eliminates odors but also purifies the air of fine dust. For example, pollen and bacteria are filtered out.

What’s new with the KMDA installation?

Guided recirculation - Plug & Play.

There are also some innovations when it comes to the installation of the KMDA. The Miele Plug & Play ventilation concept is now available. More specifically, an additional recirculation option for low plinth heights. The cooktop extractor only has an installation height of 20 centimeters and requires only the top drawer in the base cabinet.

For those who want to know more: The Plug & Play installation doesn’t require flat channels or a plinth box. Instead, the filtered air is directed through a gap between the cabinet and the kitchen back wall over the plinth into the room (enabled by an adapter on the discharge nozzle).

For kitchen planning, it is also important to know: The Miele KMDA should not be installed above a refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine, or dryer. There’s an exception for ovens and ranges: If the device is equipped with a grease cooling system, the KMDA can be installed above the oven.
