Induction Cooktops and How They Work
Induction cooktops are modern and economical cooktops with electromagnetic heating power. Copper coils under the cooking plate create a magnetic field that heats the cooking area exactly where the bottom of the pot or pan is. As soon as the cookware is removed, the magnetic flux and thus the heating is interrupted. This makes induction cooktops one of the most energy-efficient cooktop types on the market and is becoming increasingly popular for this very reason.

Purchase criteria for induction hobs
Before we get to our induction hob test and compare the top models from our manufacturers, we will clarify the most important conditions for purchasing a hob. There are some important questions that you should ask yourself before buying a new hob.
Hob Dimensions
Although there are standard values for hob dimensions, you should still be able to estimate the available space before purchasing an induction hob. It can make a significant difference whether the induction hob is 90 cm or only 60 cm wide. Therefore, you should definitely pay attention to the appropriate hob dimensions before purchasing!
The widths vary somewhat depending on the manufacturer. Siemens induction hobs are often 90 cm wide. Bosch induction hobs are 60 cm. You can also find 70 cm wide induction hobs, for example, from Neff. And then there are the very narrow models. Small induction hobs with small dimensions of only about 20 - 40 cm wide. Like from Miele. Such models have only one cooking zone and are suitable for small kitchens, single households, students, or camper van kitchens.
Weight
In addition to the dimensions, the weight of induction cooktops also plays a role. Not every countertop can support the same amount of weight. So-called slim countertops (very narrow models) can only support a small load. Especially if you want to purchase a cooktop with an extractor, the material and thickness of the countertop should be considered.
Your Cooking Habits
Last but not least, your own cooking habits will naturally determine your choice of hob. When purchasing an induction hob, you should therefore consider how you will use it. Are you a frequent cook or an occasional cook? Do you cook just for yourself, for friends, or for an extended family? Do you need new cookware (induction hobs often require induction-compatible cookware)?
Conclusion of our induction cooktop comparison
In conclusion, it can be said that many well-known manufacturers offer truly excellent induction cooktops with numerous features. In principle, the range doesn't differ that much. All of the bestsellers presented here are very similar in terms of both price and quality. Therefore, when it comes to purchasing an induction cooktop, the design and size are often the deciding factors. If you're looking for small induction cooktops, Miele is definitely the right choice. They offer the best quality with a modern design and comparable longevity. If, on the other hand, design is your priority, a Siemens induction cooktop is probably the best choice. The Siemens studioLine offers some very good induction cooktops that advance cooking in the most modern way. True professional quality, on the other hand, can be found with a Gaggenau cooktop. Here, not only a sophisticated design plays a role, but also functionality. Some induction hobs, such as the Gaggenau induction hob, have practical features that bring professional equipment into the home kitchen.
