Who is behind the brands Miele, Siemens & Bosch?
Of course, the names Miele, Siemens and Bosch are well known in Germany (and often beyond). Because of their popularity, they stand for seriousness, reliability and quality. When you buy something, you trust that the devices will do their job and that they will last. And if not, that customer-oriented service is guaranteed. But who is actually behind the top home appliance brands?

Miele - traditional family business
The Miele brand has an absolutely unique selling point: it can look back on a long family tradition. 120 years ago, in 1899, the technician Carl Miele founded a company to manufacture milk centrifuges with the businessman Reinhard Zinkmann. Eleven years later, Miele brought the first washing machine with its own electric motor onto the market. The very first washing machine in Germany, which is now in a museum in Gütersloh, where the direct descendants continue to run the company today.

Bosch - the modern technology giant
In terms of size, and in the truest sense of the word, Miele cannot keep up with the technology giant Bosch. The company, founded in 1886, employs 410,000 people at more than 100 locations and generates sales of 77.9 billion euros. However, Robert Bosch GmbH does not handle this mass on its own. Several subsidiaries in 60 countries are involved. In addition, according to Euromonitor 2018, the Bosch brand is the number 1 brand for large household appliances in Europe.

Siemens – the (large) Bosch subsidiary
Siemens is also part of the Bosch Group. The company was founded in 1847 by the entrepreneur Werner von Siemens, making it the oldest brand in our comparison. It was also the company that brought electricity into our everyday lives, with the invention of the dynamo machine. Today, the company's focus is on electrification, automation and digitalization. Around 380,000 employees worldwide generated sales of 83 billion euros in the last financial year.

Siemens & Bosch vs. Miele – which brand has the best kitchen appliances?
So much for the story. But what about the products? We took a closer look at the manufacturers Miele, Bosch and Siemens and their product ranges. Which of them has the latest ideas and technologies? What are the differences in design language? And what about sustainability?
Image comparison: Innovative ideas = innovative household appliances?
What do the Bosch and Miele brands stand for?
Bosch & Siemens stand for progress
New ideas, modern technology and the Internet of Things (ioT). When it comes to innovation, Siemens and Bosch are at the forefront. Both brands rely on young and modern corporate communication. The brands know how to present themselves with perfect storytelling on the website and in their own online magazine. Marketing campaigns such as #likeabosch and collaboration with influencers such as YouTuber Sally are part of their marketing strategy, with which they also want to appeal to young customers. And with additional offers, e.g. the Bosch health insurance company (Bosch BKK), they also ensure that they are an attractive employer.
Miele stands for tradition
Miele also relies on tradition on its website, is more reserved in its customer approach, concentrates on the classic information pages, a look "behind the scenes" at the creation of new products, gives recipe suggestions and organizes cooking events. Customers can, for example, get to know the products or visit the in-house Miele Tafelkünstler cooking school.
Technology comparison: Smart solutions for the home
What household appliance technology is available from Bosch, Siemens and Miele?
Bosch Home Connect
In the IoT sector for innovative solutions in the areas of Smart Home, Smart City and Industry 4.0, the Bosch brand is a leading provider. The fact that technology is a top priority is already evident from the company slogan: "Technology for life". It is therefore clear that Bosch household appliances are equipped with the latest technology. Among the new products you will find, for example, the first AI oven. The Bosch oven with artificial intelligence is based on sensors that measure the temperature inside the oven, for example, and thus control the cooking process.
Siemens Home Connect
At Siemens, for example, this function is called iSensoric technology. This means that your household appliances do the thinking for you. Your Siemens washing machine knows how much detergent it needs, the refrigerator automatically regulates the temperature inside and your oven has a sensor that tells you when the dough for your cake is done. Very practical, isn't it?
Miele Smart Home via the app
The family-run company Miele creates a smart home with the Miele app (formerly: Miele@home). The devices of the latest Generation 7000 are equipped with it, for example. With the help of the Miele app, the household appliances can be conveniently controlled via smartphone or tablet. The smart kitchen appliances are also compatible with Amazon's Alexa voice assistant. The smart home function is primarily intended to make your everyday life easier. For example, ovens and the like provide information on preparation times and can be switched on or off while you are on the go. You will also find recipe suggestions with shopping lists in the app, as well as a shop function for tabs, cleaners, etc.
Design & Form in comparison
Timeless elegance and clear lines in all three kitchen appliance brands.

Sustainability in comparison
We believe that the topic of sustainability should not be left out of a brand comparison. Especially in today's world, the large manufacturers in particular are role models and should set a good example. As far as can be seen from the outside, this is also the case with Miele, Siemens and Bosch.
Bosch & Siemens Sustainability
When it comes to sustainability, the Bosch Group focuses primarily on the manufacturing process. Siemens has set itself the goal of neutralizing its CO2 consumption by 2030. And Bosch will leave no carbon footprint next year. Like Miele household appliances, Bosch products also have special energy-saving functions. For example, the i-DOS dosing system in washing machines, which saves water and detergent.
Miele Sustainability
Miele has been continuously reducing its energy consumption since 2000 and aims to reach 20% by 2025. With the help of special functions, the family company is trying to help customers save energy with its products. For example, the TwinDos function on washing machines ensures that up to 30% less detergent needs to be used by automatically regulating the dosage. And 93% of the washing machines sold in the 2015/16 financial year were classified in the best energy class (A+++). There is a similar function on dishwashers. Miele AutoDos dishwashers dose their detergent according to the load. In addition, the so-called PowerDisk is made of an environmentally friendly material.
Miele kitchen appliances are also particularly durable. During their production, the company tests ovens and the like for a service life of up to 20 years.
Our conclusion in the manufacturer comparison of Miele, Bosch and Siemens
As you can see, the three household appliance brands have many parallels. They hardly differ in terms of design, range and sustainability. In terms of price, you can get cheap entry-level products from the manufacturer Miele. However, the price range is the largest at the German family company, so you can also find expensive kitchen appliances in the range. Bosch and Siemens hardly differ in price. However, Siemens is slightly more expensive than the parent company.
So if you are looking for a good and high-quality product that you can enjoy for a long time, you should choose a Miele household appliance. On the other hand, you get the most modern and sometimes most unusual technology with a Bosch or Siemens appliance.
